MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “THE BOOK OF ELSEWHERE”
I got the book in Target and it had 30% discount. I truly loved the cover of the book with the black/pink/snail art. I have been wanted to read this book since it came out, but I have a lot of books to read so I waited until it was on sale.
First, I want to disclose that I LOVE SCIENCE FICTION, and with that said, this was my taste. The book was beautifully written, alternating stories about the main character through time and then returning to the present, where the main story is unfolding.
I usually do not make notations in books, but I did in this book. I kept highlighting and bookmarking paragraphs that were deep, or interesting, or intense.
I enjoyed reading this book, and I am going to get the comic books from which this book derives.
The main character “B”/”Unite”/”Death” was raw, intense, human and god like at the same time. You wanted to understand him, but then you didn’t. It was a very interesting character and every time he was talking or acting I was in awe of his actions and words.
All other characters were interesting, and had their function on the plot. Some of them, as the story developed, changed my perspective of them, but most interesting is the idea of how the search for understanding and knowledge can take simple humans into actions that will never meet the requirements to find that knowledge.
PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:
She said, We needed a tool. So I asked the gods.
There have always been whispers. Legends. The warrior who cannot be killed. Who’s seen a thousand civilizations rise and fall. He has had many names: Unute, Child of Lightning, Death himself. These days, he’s known simply as “B.”
And he wants to be able to die.
In the present day, a U.S. black-ops group has promised him they can help with that. And all he needs to do is help them in return. But when an all-too-mortal soldier comes back to life, the impossible event ultimately points toward a force even more mysterious than B himself. One at least as strong. And one with a plan all its own.
