MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “DANGERLAND!”

I truly enjoyed this book. It was fun, romantic, unhinged, kind, and emotional. It was a true ride into a life half-lived and half-loved.

It is about Eugene and Kurt, best friends who met each other when she was 16 years old and he was 8 years old. He felt instantly in love with her, and she was dating her older punk mean brother. That is the beginning of an endless chase between Eugene and Kurt, which will involve marriages, children, and work. For years, their husband and wives, parents, and later on, their kids, will accuse them of having an affair and of loving each other more than anyone else, all the while they have been defending a true and great friendship.

The story goes back and forth, through the years, taking us through the moments in which their friendship was solid, and the years in which their decisions took them away from each other. We understand the rollercoaster of emotions that they have both been on until now, the present, when Kurt confirms that their time is now, and once again, he professes his love with the intention of moving their relationship from friendship to a couple.

The books also relate the story of Eugene’s son Austin (who hates Kurt and blames him for the demise of his parents’ marriage), Nellie who is Kurts live-in nanny for the last 20 years, Brianna who is Kurt’s oldest daughter, they all have their problems and struggles and provides the perfect pieces for all to come down one fine day when all the trues are exposed. Will their love prevail?

This book made me laugh, made me think about life, made me hope about the future, and made me feel grateful for all that was accomplished. This book, for me, was a romance story directed to an older and wiser audience.

PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:

urt Richter has been in love with Eugenie Zepp since he was eight years old. Now he’s in his fifties, twice divorced, a father of four. The entire neighborhood is suing him, and he’s been estranged from Eugenie for a decade.

In other words: perfect timing to declare himself to her.

Kurt and Eugenie grew up in Vegas among the glamour and the grit, slot machines in pharmacies, off-Strip tiki bars, all night poker games, shimmering desert heat. They’ve spent a lifetime orbiting each other, building families and making a beautiful mess of them while trying to decide if what they share is destiny or disaster.

Now their adult children are back in town with grudges, heartbreaks, and schemes of their own. As secrets surface and loyalties shift, will this be the right time for Eugenie and Kurt, after everything they’ve been through?

MY RATING: 4.5

Rating: 5 out of 5.
