MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS IN THE LIBRARY” by MICHIKO AOYAMA
I got the book from my local library. I was intrigued by the title as I was in the Library looking for a book! . The audio version of the book on the Libby app was not available until a few weeks later so I read it without the audiobook.
I truly enjoyed reading this book! The book includes short stories of different characters stumbling into the Community Library and being given a “bonus gift” when requesting books. The Librarian gives the “bonus gift” together with a small felted toy and the reader’s life changes as they read and come to understand their situation and choose the path forward.
It was a hopeful, tender, real, and kind read and I truly enjoyed each one of the characters and their stories, all linked in one way or another to improving their lives through books.
I totally recommend this book if you want to read something different that surprises you from within and puts smiles on your face.
PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:
What are you looking for? So asks Tokyo’s most enigmatic librarian. For Sayuri Komachi is able to sense exactly what each visitor to her library is searching for and provide just the book recommendation to help them find it.
A restless retail assistant looks to gain new skills, a mother tries to overcome demotion at work after maternity leave, a conscientious accountant yearns to open an antique store, a recently retired salaryman searches for newfound purpose.
In Komachi’s unique book recommendations they will find just what they need to achieve their dreams. What You Are Looking For Is in the Library is about the magic of libraries and the discovery of connection. This inspirational tale shows how, by listening to our hearts, seizing opportunity and reaching out, we too can fulfill our lifelong dreams. Which book will you recommend?
