MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “THE ONE”

I watched a YouTube video of many BookTubers sharing their most recommended book. I wrote all of them and added them to my TBR; however, only this book was readily available in Libby. I can definitely enjoy a dystopian future science fiction read, so I was happy to start on this one. After finishing the book, I was extremely happy I read it.

The book follows many characters, all with their stories being told little by little, and jumping from character to character as the time in the story moves forward. In this dystopian future, you can submit your DNA to find your DNA match, your ONE you are destined to be.

Of course, there are pros and cons to this discovery, and many characters are faced with the reality of being matched to their ONE, and not the wonderful love story that is expected. Our main characters are all going through the heartache and happiness of finding their one; also among the main characters is the story of the person who “discovered” the One DNA.

This book is sad, is happy, is emotional, is evil, is unexpected, and the best way I can describe it is human. We see the whole range of human emotions that we are faced with when making decisions we never expected to make, for the people we never expected to love. From being matched with a serial killer to being matched with a person of the same sex even though you thought you were straight. This book takes you to places emotionally and leaves you there to sort out your own emotions and thoughts.

I truly enjoyed this book.

PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:

A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you’ll be matched with your perfect partner—the one you’re genetically made for.

That’s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.

Now five very different people have received the notification that they’ve been “Matched.” They’re each about to meet their one true love. But “happily ever after” isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

MY RATING: 5.0

Rating: 5 out of 5.
