WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS BOOK?

I am doing the July read-athon with my book club. I needed a book with a setting in a remote location, and this book fit the theme. The book was also available in Libby and was short as well. When I searched a bit about this book, I found out that this book is considered a “Contemporary Classic,” adding to the reason to pick up this book.

MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “FOSTER”

I truly enjoyed this short novel. It was beautifully written, with a softness that was embedded into the story from beginning to end. I was taken aback by how easy and touching the story was.

It was a quick read that had its harsh moments and tender moments. You can clearly feel the changes in the child as she gets used to the Kinsellas, and you can feel the longing for love from the Kinsellas as well.

An absolute must-read.

This was a 5-star read for me.

PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:

It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm, not knowing when or if she will be brought home again. In the Kinsellas’ house, she finds an affection and warmth she has not known and slowly, in their care, begins to blossom. But there is something unspoken in this new household—where everything is so well tended to—and this summer must soon come to an end.
