MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “The Only Good Indians” by Stephen Graham Jones

I got the physical book from my local public library. I participated in a Read-a-thon during January, and one of the prompts was to read a book written by Stephen Graham Jones. This book looked promising, and I wanted something dark, so this was the perfect choice.

I must confess that I had to read the first chapter a second time, because it was hard to understand. My English-as-a-second-language made it a bit difficult, but after rereading it and moving on to the next few chapters, I was able to follow the story.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The writing was dark, serious, intriguing, and poetic. The story kept evolving as the characters were introduced, and the story ending kept changing until the very end. I did not see the end coming, and it was a pleasant surprise.

I am planning to read more books by Stephen Graham Jones. The books Mongrel and the Gospel of Z are in my TBR for this year.

PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:

This story as it follows the lives of four American Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a violent, vengeful way.

MY RATING: 4.4

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
