MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “Smile of the Wolf” by Tim Leach

I got the book from my local library. I read the premise and was intrigued enough to borrow it. I need a “chill or chilling book” and this well, this was chilly.

I loved this book from the first chapter, and the main reason was the writing, but the second reason was the setting. I have a soft spot for super chilly books, and this one was so cold!. The writing was raw, fundamentally simple, yet full of emotion. It was fast-paced, and it kept me guessing all the way to the end of the book.

I am not a fan of historical fiction, but this book is all I look for in a historical fiction book. It was mysterious and intriguing, it was real, and it was raw. It was historical fiction at best.

I was not able to put down the book for the last 35% of the book. The speed at which everything evolved was fascinating. And the end was absolutely sad, but courageous, I really liked the end.

PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:

Tenth-century Iceland. In the midwinter darkness, on the lifeless black soils of a newly settled land, two friends kill a man. Kjaran, an itinerant storyteller, and Gunnar, a once-feared warrior, must make a choice: conceal the deed or confess to it and pay the blood price to the dead man’s brothers.

For the right reasons, they make the wrong choice.

Kjaran and Gunnar’s fateful decision will leave them fighting for their lives, fighting to retain their humanity as Iceland’s unyielding code of honour ignites a remorseless blood feud that will consume all it touches.

MY RATING: 4.5

Rating: 4 out of 5.
