MY PERSONAL OPINION OF “BRIGHT YOUNG WOMEN”
I got the ebook from my local library through Libby. It was the first book I read on my new Kobo Libra Colour, and I picked it because of the book’s cover. It was colorful and bright, and after reading a bit of the premise, I went for it.
I did not read much about what the book was about, but I have seen this book in lots of TBR and discussions, and it was a thriller, which is suitable for this season.
I did not realize it was a 400-page book until I was about 10% in. By then, I was hooked and kept going. I read this book in 4 days, which for me is fast. The book started with a BAM! and it was hard not to keep going. To understand the main character when the murders happened, but also how the tragedy had shaped her life.
The main character, Pamela, was likable throughout the entire book. From when she was the President of the Sorority that was attacked, and dealing with having her best friend killed, to going on to Law School, and her work and life choices as well. Pamela was a great character to me.
Martina “Tina” character was also incredibly interesting, as was Ruth’s character. Both have been strong within their weakness, incredible resolutions in choosing our individual destinies.
I truly enjoyed how “The Defendant” (the killer) was portrayed in this novel. Although it seems that “The Defendant” had a following at the time and afterwards, it was rewarding to see how Pamela and Tina saw through his charade. He was weak, stupid, and dangerous, no more and no less.
PREMISE OF THE BOOK AS FOUND IN AMAZON / GOODREADS:
The book opens on a Saturday night in 1978, hours before a soon-to-be-infamous murderer descends upon a Florida sorority house with deadly results. The lives of those who survive, including a sorority president and key witness, Pamela Schumacher, are forever changed. Across the country, Tina Cannon is convinced her missing friend was targeted by the man the papers refer to as the All-American Sex Killer—and that he’s struck again. Determined to find justice, the two join forces as their search for answers leads to a final, shocking confrontation.
MY RATING: 4.25
